Matthew 14:13-21
Our Soul Food

In spite of our frequent cynicism and unbelief the kingdom of God is characterized by abundance and not scarcity. Too often we are like Bunyan's character, "Little Faith", who goes about bemoaning life's challenges and the pitfalls that believers face.

Matthew's story of the feeding of 5,000 people (not including women and children) is meant to remind us that God is able to meet our needs even while we focus on our own inadequacies. The disciples see only 5 loaves and 2 fish - Jesus sees the potential that lies within the gift for all the people. The point being is that as we live our lives centred on Jesus we can know his empowering Spirit of abundance in our everyday.
