The crossing of the Red Sea and the defeat of the Egyptians is viewed as a marvellous victory of God over the forces of oppression and chaos, so it is no surprise that the miraculous intervention is followed by a spontaneous burst of paise. Songs are written and sung; dances are performed in celebration of Yahweh and instruments including the tambourine are employed in the acts of praise, worship and adoration. Everyone is invited to join into the party and celebrate the birth of the nation of Israel. It is an invitation which spans the centuries as we are also invited to make the song our own as the writer suggests “I will sing to the Lord for her has triumphed gloriously…”
