A Sojourning People: Then & Now

We live in a day when people travel the globe. People crisscross countries and continents without giving it much thought. However, not too long ago such journeys were less known. To travel abroad was an ‘adventure’ including a degree of risk. When we consider biblical journeys like Moses leading the children of Israel through the desert for forty long years it isn’t simply a ‘vacation” but a ‘sojourn’. Hence, a question we can ask ourselves is “What is the nature of sojourning both then and now?” Also in the New Testament the Apostle Peter refers to us as “sojourners” (1Peter 2:11). Why does he do so and what does it mean? These types of pertinent questions flow from our reflections on the biblical text and inform the nature of our spiritual journey.
