Sequestered in Babylonian exile Daniel continues to look to "Elohim" to be his God. Even while Daniel serves the great king Nebuchadnezzar as a faithful counsellor he never allows the Babylonian gods to replace his loyalty to Jehovah. In our passage today we hear of Daniel's fervent relationship with "the God of Heaven" even as he lived in a wildly, different religious and cultural milieu.
