In this story we see the face of affirmation & acceptance.

  • Jesus affirms John by coming to him and being baptized by him.
  • Jesus accepts John – camel hair clothes, locust lunches, shouting & all (Matt. 3:1-12.)
  • Jesus is affirmed by God himself through the appearance of the Spirit/dove and the voice.

Jesus offerings us affirmation & acceptance.
~ Where/how do you experience affirmation this week – a person/an accomplishment/an idea…?
~ Do you see someone else being affirmed?
~ What reminds you of Jesus’ acceptance?

“Standing with”, “helping to support”, “going to” are all verbs of affirmation and I’m realizing I see those acted out around me in so many ways each day. Those actively supporting refugees from the Ukraine (and so many other countries). Those who know a friend is in need of a job and they rally around to help them in the search. A cancer patient whose friends organize a “Meal Train” while they are going through treatment.

What affirmation, what acceptance of those in difficult circumstances. It’s like people are saying – “You are this important to us!” Is that what Jesus looked like? Sounded like? Is this Jesus showing himself around me today saying – “Hey, this is what I’m like – look.”?

Hmm what did Jesus look like? What does Jesus look like today? Am I seeing his kind of “Affirmation” and “Acceptance” all the time, but missing it?

Where do you seeing Affirmation & Acceptance around you? Would you share what you see?
